International Society for Technology in Education ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) is a non-profit organization for educators in the K-12 setting who are interested in the effective use of technology to enhance teaching and learning in their classrooms. Additionally, the major focus is enhancing student educational achievement via the use of technology. To accomplish this goal ISTE has provided teachers with NETS (National Educational Technology Standards) to ensure that the overall goal of technology in education is met. The NETS was recently updated at the ISTE conference (formally NECC) in 2009 which marked the 30th year of the ISTE conference. NETS is available for educators, students and administrators. ISTE is governed by a Board of Directors which consists of 16 members; currently, the president of the board is Helen Padgett. The CEO of ISTE Dr. Donald G. Knezek has an extensive educational background, specifically in the field of technology and is extremely qualified to be a leader to such a prominent organization. Additionally, the deputy CEO and conference chair Dr. Leslie Conrey who was on the leadership team for NETS provides the organazition with the support necessary to move forward in this technological age.Mission StatementISTE is a non-profit organization, providing "advanced excellence in learning and teaching through innovative and effective use of technology." 100 forward thinking cooperation's that hold the same ideals ISTE's mission and vision.
1,000 who join the ISTE conference yearly to make it a success.
Cost/Benefits of Membership
The cost of membership for ISTE is affordable to most and is broken down into multiple categories. Hence, there is a category that fits the needs of every individual who is interested in becoming a member of this beneficial non-profit organization. All membership prices are for the course of one year. The costs are as follows for US members:

Employment Services
ISTE provides members with a convenient service that enables the searching and posting of jobs. The job search area provides educators with high quality educational technology employment opportunities with increased responsibility, higher salaries and job satisfaction. The job posting area provides an outlet to employers searching to qualified employees that can be recruits quickly and easily. Persons attempting to find a job have the options of posting their resume and career development tools to enhanced their possibilities of finding the right job. Additionally, ISTE provides professional development opportunities and services for educators to improve teaching and learning in the K-12 setting. Professional development includes; seminars, workshops and the annual ISTE conference.
Conference
ISTE holds on annual conference which is formally known as NECC (National Educational Computing Conference). In 2009, the conference was held for the 30th time and the name evolved from NECC to ISTE Conference. In 2010 the conference will be held in Denver at the Colorado Convention Center from June 27th-30th.
Publications
ISTE holds numerous publications that educators turn to as a guide for incorporating technology across all curriculums to enhance the teaching and learning process. ISTE's many publications take form in books, peoiodicals, and classroom materials which all provide applicable strategies and information focused around the technological needs of any K-12 classroom setting.

Projects
To date, ISTE has completed many projects and the organization is currently working towards completing projects which will enhance learning and teaching and will fulfill the requirements found in the mission of the ISTE organization. A few of the projects undertaken are:
Anderson County Technology Assessment- This county provided the funding necessary to upgrade its technology; however, wanted to structure of the new technology to be adequate for integration towards academic advancement is their students. Hence ISTE was given the responsibility of completing this project.
Preparing Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology- was a grant sponsored by the US Department of Education form 1999- 2004 for teacher in colleges and universities in Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, and Missouri. ISTE developed some of the evaluation tools which eventually became part of the NETS.
